Pastor's Message

The Year Ahead

When traveling to an unfamiliar destination, I like to talk to individuals who have already been where I’m going. I value their input for several reasons. First, they can provide directions with an eye for detail. People who have been where I’m going can not only tell me the best roads to take and which way to turn, they can also provide helpful landmarks which accompany each turn. Such information is more than time saving, it is reassuring as well.

Another reason I value the input of those who have been where I’m going, is they can provide information which will enrich my travel experience. They know the best sights to see, the best restaurants to eat at, and the best places to lodge. The value of their information applies not only to the final destination, but to the actual journey as well.

A third reason why I like to consult with those who have been where I’m going has to do with personal safety. When traveling to an unfamiliar place, knowing where not to go is just as important as knowing where to go.

We are all about to begin a journey to a place we have never been. That place is 2006. It is a journey that will be uniquely different for each of us - one that will involve many turns, many significant sights, and many places of potential peril.

The uncertainty of it all can be a bit overwhelming, but we can take comfort in the fact that we can consult with someone who has already been where we are going. Jesus is the Master of our past, present, and future. He has already traveled the road we now set out upon. He has all the information we need for successful navigation. He also knows what experiences will make our trip enjoyable and fulfilling, and He knows what things we ought to avoid in the interest of our health and well-being.

Talk to the Lord about 2006. He has all the information you need for your journey and He is eager to share it with you. But more than that; consult with Him regularly and often throughout the year, to make sure you’re headed in the right direction.
